In the CES 2019 ASRock suit, a rare gem was kept for small-scale form factor enthusiasts: A new DeskMini A300 series system that comes with the A300-STX AM4 motherboard, the company claims that it is the world’s smallest is. Surprisingly, the system will retail for only $ 119 for coming in the market next month.
ASRock’s DeskMini A300 is still another product of the company’s DeskMini SFF system, which includes Z390 and B360 systems that come with MXM GPU.
The A300 model comes with a custom A300-STX motherboard that adheres to the micro-STX form factor, which means that the board only measures 5-inch x 5-inch. Shrinking the board in small size required to eliminate the PCI slot and the board does not support the MXM graphics card. This means that you will need an AMD processor which comes with integrated graphics, which limits your options to AMD’s Raven Ridge and Bristol Ridge processor, which is with the 65W TDP limit.
Keeping in mind its small size, the board comes with considerable connectivity. The board consists of two M.2 sockets supporting SSD with 2280 form factor, in which one socket is placed on the motherboard and the other is tucked downwards. It also has two SATA 6Gb / s ports for traditional storage devices.
Two SO-DIMM memory slots DDR4-2933 support with A-Series processor with Ryzen and DDR4-2400. The display output includes HDMI (4K @ 60Hz), DisplayPort and D-All. The board has also sported USB 2.0 and USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A port on the I / O section, and two additional USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-C and Type-A Port are given at the front of the board. There are also accommodation for an M.2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth modules.
The board resides in the 1.9-liter deskmini chassis, which measures 155 x155 x 80 mm. A 120W power brick feeds a five-phase power distribution subsystem through a rear DC-in jack, but some of the 225b models do not have as much brick as bricker, which comes with a GPU-equipped deskmini model. Limited power budget, not to mention limited cooling options in such a small case, takes overclocking on the table.
The barebones system comes without memory, storage, or a CPU, which explains the low asking price. ASRock also sells several accessories separately, like VESA mounts, low-profile CPU coolers, Wi-Fi ac kits, and audio cables. The DeskMini A300 comes to market next month.
