Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa has resigned on Tuesday. Lavasa will join the Asian Development Bank (ADB) next month. IAS Lavasa, a 1980-batch retiree, was a contender for becoming the Chief Election Commissioner. 62-year-old Lavasa was made the Election Commissioner in January 2018. He had two years left.
During the Lok Sabha elections, Lavasa had opposed the Election Commission's clean chit to Narendra Modi and Amit Shah over allegations of code of conduct violation. Six complaints were made against Modi.
