People opposing wall construction broke the under construction wall and also picked up and threw away the brick and cement on the construction site. JCB machines standing there were vandalized. Not only this, the angry mob has also damaged many historical structures there.

Sources said that in the autumn, 'Pausha Mela' is held annually in this ground and the university administration had decided to build a boundary wall here which started this morning. Sources said that around 4,000 people arrived at the Shanti Niketan campus and started damaging property and with the help of JCB started to collapse a wall of the university.

Official sources said that Naresh Bauri, a Trinamool Congress MLA from Dubrajpur, was present there during the vandalism. The university administration declined to comment on the incident.
SFI leader Somnath Sau of Visva Bharati said that the students, ashram residents and other old students protested against the Central University's 'Upasan Griha' by attempting to prevent people from reaching the boundary by constructing a boundary wall at the university's Pausha Mela ground. He said that they would hold a meeting to decide on the next step.
An attempt was made to contact Vice Chancellor Vidyut Chakraborty and spokesperson Anirban Sarkar over the phone to comment on the issue, but it could not succeed.
