People on Twitter are applauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi for mentioning sanitary napkins in the Independence Day address. People described it as a step towards breaking the stereotypes related to menstruation.
The Prime Minister said in his address that sanitary napkins have been started in one rupee under the 'Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra' scheme for the empowerment of women and their health.
From the ramparts of the Red Fort, the Prime Minister said that more than five crore sanitary napkins have been given to women in less than 6,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
The Prime Minister is being praised on Twitter for referring to this subject. People using social media platforms say that talking about menstruation in the national address by the Prime Minister will help break the stereotypes related to it.
Actor Akshay Kumar also praised the Prime Minister on the social media platform. He wrote, Our Prime Minister mentioned sanitary pads in his Independence Day address today, this is real progress… it made menstrual period mainstream. We also applaud the government, which has so far distributed sanitary pads at the rate of Re 1 to five crore women.

Another Twitter user wrote, “The best thing about Narendra Modi's speech today was that he was talking about women's hygiene, sanitary pads, breaking stereotypes and opportunities for women in the military forces.” nice to hear.
Another person wrote on Twitter, “It is indeed a very big, historical and commendable thing to speak in the Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the taboo subject of sanitary pads.”
Another user said that by referring to the sanitary napkin in his address, the Prime Minister has set an example.
