Samsung will not offer this feature in its upcoming smartphones, already present in Galaxy S10 and Note 10. gadgets – Tech News

Samsung is going to remove a feature in its new series of phones. Like the company's recently launched Galaxy Note 20 series, the Samsung Galaxy S30 (Samsung Galaxy S30) series will not have a time-of-flight (TOF) sensor. This center came in Galaxy S20 Plus and S20 Ultra and last year's Galaxy S10 (Galaxy S10) and Note 10 (Galaxy Note 10). A report by Korean publication The Alec has claimed that Samsung is concerned that its indirect TOF system is not as good as Apple's lidar technology for AR Experience.

Apple uses a direct TOF sensor, while Samsung's sensor indirect uses TOF. Therefore, Apple's cameras have a two-fold range and they are able to measure distances up to six meters whereas Samsung has this capacity of three meters.

Both Samsung and Apple do not directly manufacture their TOF sensors, they buy its components from Sony. According to the report, Apple reportedly has an exclusive contract with Sony for direct TOF technology, although Samsung's upcoming flagship product will feature super imaging technology. It is expected that the S20 Ultra successor will support a 150 megapixel primary camera. The Galaxy S30 can be powered by Snapdragon, 875 mobile platform or Samsung's indigenous Exynos 1000.
