A family was forced to carry the body on a bicycle to a crematorium amid heavy rains in a village in Belagavi district of Karnataka on Sunday due to Kovid-19 allegedly not receiving any help. After the video of the incident went viral, the state unit of Congress criticized the government for not providing an ambulance to carry the body.
Sharing the video on Twitter, Congress state unit chief DK Shivakumar wrote, “Relatives of a 70-year-old man who lost his life in Kittur in Belagavi had to carry the body on a bicycle for the last rites amid heavy rain.”
Shivkumar questioned the government and said, 'BS Yeddyurappa, where is your government? Why was the ambulance not provided? … The government lacks humanity and has completely failed to deal with the epidemic. '
According to the family members of the deceased, he had fever for two days and the medical team of the local primary health care center advised the family to get him admitted to the hospital as he was showing signs of corona virus.
He died while the family was preparing to take him to the hospital. The family said they called the emergency number for the ambulance, but there was no response.
He claimed that the neighbors did not come for help due to fear of Corona. Finally, the family decided to take the dead body on a bicycle in the middle of the rain and take it to the crematorium.
