Bank officials are accused of embezzlement, scam, fraud, fake loans, fake vouchers, breaking their FD without the consent of the members and grabbing the money. The process of returning the money of bank account holders up to Rs 1 lakh has also been started.
According to Assistant Commissioner and Assistant Registrar of Cooperatives Department, Devendra Singh, Mahamedha Urban Cooperative Bank Limited was granted banking business by RBI on 27 February 2001. The bank is headquartered at Nai Basti Ghaziabad located in Nagar Kotwali area.
The bank's license was revoked on 11 August 2017 by the bank due to embezzlement, money hijacking and financial irregularities. At the same time, the government had ordered an inquiry into financial irregularities. Under this, permission was granted to conduct a special audit on 27 June 2018. In 2019, instructions were given to recover FIR and embezzlement.
Allegations of embezzlement on former officials and officers proved
According to the FIR, an audit of the bank was conducted by M / s MRS & Co., which proved serious allegations against the former officials and bank officials of the managing committee of the bank. Amount of Rs 99,85,12,347 was deposited by depositors through adjustment of third party loans and fake bill vouchers. Apart from the officials and officials among the accused, various firms, committee members and companies are also involved.
Embezzlement amount and number of accused may increase
According to the report, Pappu Bhati, former chairman of the managing committee, died in September 2009. Also, the audit report also states that during the deliberations, the amount of embezzlement and the number of embezzlement accused can be increased. Police say that the accused whose names will come up in the investigation will also be included in the trial.
The bank was in discussion about irregularities from the beginning
The RBI had given conditional approval for banking in Ghaziabad, Hapur and Gautam Buddha Nagar to Mahamedha Urban Cooperative Bank. In the initial stages, the bank came under discussion regarding irregularities. The publication of a newspaper in the name of the bank was also started, which later closed down. It was told that along with registration of FIR, recovery will be done from the accused of embezzlement.
A case has been registered against 24 people for embezzlement, fraud and preparing fake documents. One of the named accused has died. Based on the facts which will come to light in the deliberations, further action will be taken.
