- If airlines are financially strapped, they can give a credit shell equal to the amount deposited from passengers: DGCA
The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has told the Supreme Court that in the first two phases of the lockdown, full refund of air tickets booked by passengers will be given. That is, between March 25 to May 3, if any passenger has booked a domestic or international flight ticket, then all his money will be refunded.
Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court asking that the passengers whose flights are canceled during the lockdown be refunded. The Supreme Court had on this asked private airlines and DGCA to find a way to get refund.
In other cases money has to be returned within 15 days
The DGCA said in its affidavit – if passengers have booked tickets for any journey between March 25 to April 14 from March 25 to May 3, they will be given a full refund in such cases. Airlines will do these refunds immediately. Because, the order issued on 16 April said that the airline should not book tickets in this way. In other cases, airlines will have to take steps to return the amount taken from the passenger within 15 days.
This facility was given to airlines
DGCA said – If airlines are financially strapped and cannot pay the amount immediately, then they can give a credit shell equal to the amount deposited from passengers. This credit shell should be issued in the name of the passenger who booked the ticket. Passengers will be able to use this credit shell till 31 March 2021.
If the passenger wants to buy more tickets than the value of this credit shell, then he can buy the ticket by paying extra cash. If you want to buy a ticket less than the amount of credit shell, then the remaining amount in the remaining credit shell will be provided for that period.
DGCA said that the facility of credit shell can be transferred. Passengers can transfer these credit shells to anyone and airlines have to accept such transfer. Airlines have to create a mechanism for this. Airlines can transfer cash to credit shell holders by the end of March 2021.
