TRAI is investigating plans to give preference to some customers of Vodafone Idea.
The regulator said that the plan lacks transparency and is misleading. Also, it is not in accordance with regulatory rules. TRAI had initially asked Vodafone Idea to reply to the notice by 31 August. It was extended to four September following the company's request.
A source associated with the case said that Vodafone Idea has again written a letter to the regulator saying that it needs 15 more days to respond to the 17-page notice. This notice was issued on 25 August.
The source said that TRAI has now given time till 8 September to the company to respond to the notice. An e-mail sent to Vodafone Idea regarding this could not be answered. The regulator is investigating plans to give preference to some customers of Vodafone Idea. The regulator has issued a notice to the company asking why appropriate action should not be taken against it for violation of regulatory rules through the RedX fee plan. The regulator has said that there is a lack of transparency in the RedX plan. This is misleading and not compatible with the principles of fee estimation under the Telecom Rate Order, 1999.
