Participating in the discussion on Health Minister Harsh Vardhan's statement about the Kovid-19 epidemic and the steps taken by the Government of India in this regard, Congress Deputy Leader Anand Sharma said that before this the world had faced an epidemic in the last century It was called 'Spanish Flu'. He said that a large number of people had lost their lives in other parts of the world as well as in India.
He said that when the corona virus came, initially there was an atmosphere of fear in the whole world which remains till today. He said that in the first two months a large number of people died in various countries including Europe and America.
The Congress leader said that today our medical community including doctors and nurses have got a better understanding of how to deal with this infection, but so far no new medicine has been developed for it. He said that the latest data was not given in the statement made by the Health Minister on Tuesday. Old figures are given.
Sharma said that the Health Minister said in the statement that 55 people per million infected persons have died in India, which is the lowest in the world. The Congress member pointed out to the government that the death toll in many South Asian countries, including Sri Lanka, is much lower.
He said that in many African countries even this rate is quite low. He wanted to know from the government that in the countries where BCG vaccines were put, are the rates of people dying of corona virus infection low?
Sharma said how much preparation was done by the government for the first time the Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the lockdown? He said that the people of the country should know how much was gained and how much loss was caused by the lockdown.
