The petitioner said, India's ranking should improve in the Global Corruption Perception Index
India was ranked 80th among 180 countries in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) this year. According to experts, this index is prepared by Transparency International, which is believed to be based on the level of corruption in the public sector in these countries. This PIL was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of BJP leader and Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay.
He demanded the apex court to set up a committee of experts, examine the anti-corruption measures implemented in the countries included in the first 20 countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index and also look at the steps taken against bribery, black money etc. In this petition filed through advocate Ashwini Kumar Dubey, the Law Commission of India and the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Law and Justice have also been made party.
