India has made a place in the Commission associated with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) beating China at the United Nations. This commission works on the status of women. This information has been given by TS Tirumurthy, India's permanent representative to the United Nations.
Thirumurthy said, India has secured a seat in the prestigious ECOSOC. India has been elected a member of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). It tells about our commitment towards women and how much we are working towards women empowerment. We thank all the members for this.
Let us know that this year the 25th anniversary of the famous Beijing World Conference is being celebrated and during this time China has also suffered a setback. India will continue to be a member of this commission for the next four years.
There was a contest between India, China and Afghanistan to get this seat in the commission. India and Afghanistan were supported by most of the 54 members, while China suffered disappointment. India finally won this seat.
