Being a medical student involves sitting in the library for hours. In such a situation, if you are staying in hostels, then you eat less food and eat more junk food. The same happened with Farhan, an MBBS third year student in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra.
Syed Mohammad Farhan Irfan is doing MBBS from Dr. Witthal Rao Rao Vikhe Patil Foundations Medical College and Memorial Hospital, Ahmednagar. They say that if your friends are also fond of food, then to avoid eating mess messes, they come to eat outside food everyday.
Sometimes it is nice to eat outside, but if eating like this becomes your habit every day, then you start feeling tired and lethargic. In such a situation, your weight also increases rapidly.
Farhan was getting upset with his increasing weight.
Something similar happened with Farhan too and his weight ranged from 85 to 90 kg. Farhan, who lost 15 kg during the lockdown, described his weight loss journey in his own words. They want others knowing about them to learn to control their weight and be healthy:
During MBBS studies, just sit and read day and night and eat food when you get up from study. A few months from now, this used to be my daily routine. In those days my weight was about 90 kg.
My friends advised me to join the gym. I started going to the gym but did not lose weight. Then I consulted Dr. Usha Kiran Sisodia, Chief Dietician of Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai.
Farhan felt that having maternity affected not only physical but also mental health.
I also knew that I would not be able to follow his stated diet chart for a long time because I myself am very fond of food. I can not live without eating non-veg. In such a situation it was difficult for me to follow a diet plan.
But my diet plan told by Dr. Usha Kiran was tasty and healthy in food. Because of which it was easy for me to follow it. Simultaneously I started cycling and walking.
During weight gain, I realized that when you start getting fat, not only your physical but mental health also gets affected. Even if dieting and workout is necessary to lose weight and perfect shape, but it is also important that you will be strong. Instead of eating more at one time, it is necessary to eat nutritious food like salad or fruit in a short period of time.
While studying MBBS, he came to know what can cause health damage due to weight gain.
The idea of losing my weight started coming to me when people started making fun of my weight and gave me various types of advice for weight loss. In such a situation, whenever I brought new clothes for me, I would feel tight every time. Gradually, due to my weight, I also felt embarrassed to be photographed.
In those days, while studying MBBS, I came to know that what can be the loss of health due to weight gain. There are many diseases that start to surround themselves at a young age due to excess weight. Knowing all these things, I decided that whatever happens, I have to lose weight.
The most important to lose weight is to give both your time and energy. Apart from this, it is also necessary to be patient with all efforts. People who feel that surgery or gym supplements are necessary to lose weight are also wrong. Weight loss can be done easily without both these things.
On the strength of his will, Farhan lost 15 kg.
I continued to lose weight with full discipline in February and March. A month after Ramadan could not follow it. But after Eid, I tried again. In this way, I lost 15 kg by July. My weight loss journey is still on.
I want to weigh myself 68 kg. Although I controlled my diet to lose weight, but ate a limited amount of things like a vegetable with two chapattis in the meal. Also, when hungry in the middle, eat tomatoes and cucumbers in salad, fruit or gram. If you have eaten non-veg in the morning, do not eat in the evening. What is required to lose weight is more important than what to eat daily. I always kept this in mind.
Farhan says that there are many people who understand that once the weight is increased, it is very difficult to reduce it. However, it is not like that.
People currently doing work from home have a greater chance of gaining weight because sitting in front of a computer or laptop throughout the day and eating more at home than in the office. But this is the time when you can reduce your weight easily. While at home, instead of eating more together, start eating less in short intervals. Also avoid fried and roasted things.
Eat salads, fruits or chickpeas instead. There are many people who understand that once the weight is increased, it is very difficult to reduce it. However, it is not like that. You need a good dietician to lose weight. As well as exercise. During this time, you will move slowly towards your goal but if you keep trying, success will definitely be achieved.
Farhan's parents helped him completely in losing weight.
Dieting was difficult for me when I used to go home from hostel. When going home for such a short time, eating something daily in the house makes something special. In such a situation it was difficult to control himself. But I had decided that I have to follow my diet chart in any case.
When I told my family about my weight loss plan, they supported me and thus my parents also started dieting with me. Apart from this, when my friends saw my passion for weight loss, they also supported me.

If you want to lose weight then know that losing weight is not a one-time goal but a continuous effort. This can be easy when you stay away from fried things. Eat less sweet and refrain from drinking cold drinks etc. Along with this, keep checking your weight regularly so that you can change your diet as soon as you gain weight and keep weight under control.
