Around 300 angry passengers demonstrated outside the Virar railway station on Monday afternoon demanding permission to travel by local trains. The incident occurred at around 11 am when office-going workers gathered outside the station and demanded a restart of suburban train services.
However, protesters were pacified within half an hour by the Railway Protection Police (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and local police personnel. Earlier on 22 July, angry passengers in Nalasopara demanded that they be allowed to travel by local trains. The barricades were then broken by protesters and parked on the tracks to disrupt rail services.

Currently, essential service personnel who are fighting against the Kovid-19 epidemic are only allowed to travel by suburban trains in Mumbai. Railway officials said train services, which were suspended on March 22 due to Kovid-19, are unlikely to resume to their full capacity by Diwali in mid-November.
