During the hearing in the apex court on Tuesday, Saini's lawyer Mukul Rohatgi said that his client was an excellent officer. Rohatgi said that an FIR was lodged against Saini in a malicious manner and he has now retired.
Supreme Court also orders that former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Sumedh Singh Saini will not be arrested till further orders.

Saini's lawyer told the court that the state government was behind Saini as he had filed two charges against the current Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Amarinder Singh was accused in this.
The apex court issued a notice to the Punjab government seeking response to the petition of former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini. The court said that Saini would not be arrested until the next hearing on the case would be held after two weeks.
