There will be a 50 per cent reduction in the budget of mass marriage scheme and marriage grant. A high level decision has been taken in this regard due to the Corona crisis. The mandate will be issued soon.
The state government provides financial assistance under the Marriage Scheme and Single Marriage Grant Scheme for the marriage of girls from families living below the poverty line. 51 thousand rupees per beneficiary couple is spent in the mass marriage scheme.
In this, 35 thousand rupees are sent to the account. Goods worth 10 thousand rupees are given, while six thousand rupees are spent on organizing. The scheme is operated through the Social Welfare Department. A provision of 250 crore was made under this head in the current financial year.
Similarly, under the Single Marriage Grant Scheme, 20 thousand rupees are given for the marriage of a poor girl. In the single marriage grant scheme, a budget provision of Rs 100 crore for Scheduled Castes, 50-50 crore for General and Minority and 150 crore for Backward Classes was made in this financial year. In this way, a budget of Rs 600 crores was made for both classes in both these items.
A high-level review found that there were very few marriages in the first half of the current financial year due to the lockdown and corona crisis. All the families postponed the wedding programs. In view of this, it has been agreed to cut the budget of mass marriage scheme and marriage grant scheme by 50 per cent to 300 crore.
