Filing the petition, Jagadhri resident Mehmood told the High Court that the police had registered an FIR on 2 December 2019 in the case of smuggling of Khair wood. A vehicle was caught and the Tata 407 coming behind contained Khair trees. The petitioner has been charged only on the basis of the statements of the people caught.
The petitioner has nothing to do with smuggling nor was he found on the spot. Opposing the bail, the Haryana government said that the petitioner is not involved in such work for the first time. Similar cases have also been registered earlier.
The High Court said that hiding the facts from the court in this way is not correct. The tools are yet to be recovered from which the trees were cut down and it is also to be ascertained that these trees of Khair were going to sell. In this case, the benefit of anticipatory bail cannot be given.
