Famous Mohiniattam dancer Bharti Shivaji said that she is still in a state of shock by the order. This is oppression. I do not have any separate land or institution. I do all my activities from home. But it seems that traditional art has no value to the government. At least the government should provide alternative accommodation to the winning artists to preserve traditional art.
Kuchipudi dancer Vanashree Rao said that this order is as if we are living here illegally. We were given an extension till 2014, three years after the housing allocation. Since then, we are paying its rent as per the instructions of the government. In 2018, the government sent a retrospective rent amount of eight to nine lakh rupees for the last four years, which we are paying. Every month, we pay 60 thousand rupees a lakh rupees because it is not possible to give such a huge amount together. I feel humiliated. At the age of 88, I am being asked to vacate the house, where I have been living for the last 20 years.
