Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses 20th summit of Sco Council of Heads of State – PM Modi at the SCO conference, it is necessary to respect each other's sovereignty

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the 20th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State. Addressing the conference through video conference, the Prime Minister said that India has strong cultural and historical ties with SCO countries.

He said, India believes that in order to increase connectivity it is necessary that we move forward, respecting each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity. But it is unfortunate that repeated unnecessary bilateral issues are being brought to the SCO agenda that violate the SCO Charter and its core spirit.

The Prime Minister said that India strongly believes in peace, security and prosperity. We have always voiced opposition to terrorism, illegal arms smuggling, drugs and money laundering. India has always stood firm in its commitment to work under the SCO as per the principles laid down in the SCO Charter.

In this very difficult time of this unprecedented epidemic, the pharma industry of India has sent essential medicines to more than 150 countries, Modi said. As the world's largest vaccine producing country, India will use its production and distribution capacity to help the entire humanity in fighting this crisis.

Modi said there is a need for an improved multilateralism, which reflects all the realities of today, discussing topics such as expectations of all stakeholders, contemporary challenges and human welfare. He said that we expect full support from the SCO member countries in this endeavor.

He said, the United Nations has completed 75 of its years. But, even after many successes, its original goal is still incomplete. The world, which is suffering from the economic and social suffering of the epidemic, is expected to undergo radical changes in the system of the United Nations, so that it can reach and meet its goals.
