It was illegal arrest done by a govt that doesn't understand that it can't push back independent media. If Uddhav Thackeray has problem with my journalism, he should give me interview. Explain that the Supreme Court questioned the action taken by the Maharashtra government against journalist Arnab Goswami in the 2018 case of abetment to suicide and said that banning a person's personal freedom in this way would be a mockery of justice. Simultaneously, the court ordered Arnab and other accused to be released on interim bail. Goswami was arrested last Wednesday. Goswami was released from Taloja jail in Rayagad district, hours after getting interim bail.
Goswami came out of the jail at around 8.30 pm on Wednesday. He greeted the people outside the jail by shaking hands in the car. He said that he is grateful to the Supreme Court. Goswami displayed the victory sign saying 'this is the victory of the people of India'. Earlier, a bench headed by Judge Chandrachud had said that Arnab and two other accused be released on interim bail on a bond of Rs 50,000. The bench has directed the police commissioner to immediately follow the order.
A bench of Justices Dhananjay Y. Chandrachud and Justice Indira Banerjee said that if the state governments target the people, they should realize that there is a Supreme Court to protect the freedom of citizens. The apex court expressed concern that the state governments were targeting some people on the basis of differences of ideology and opinion.
Hearing Arnab Goswami's interim bail plea, the bench said, “We are seeing cases coming up one after the other in which the High Court is not granting bail and they want to protect people's freedom, personal liberty Are failing. '
