Patil said in a party function on Friday that the BJP is not against patriotic Muslims, it is only against those who act like sleeper cells. He said, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave opportunities to many ordinary people … He made APJ Abdul Kalam the President of India.
The BJP leader said that Kalam was created by the President not because of his religion but because of his contribution as a scientist. Patil’s statement raised eyebrows because Kalam became the President in July 2002 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of the country.
On this, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Saturday said that making Kalam President was Vajpayee’s ‘masterstroke’. Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe also criticized Patil for this statement.
