Joint Chief Electoral Officer Rahul Das said that in the first phase, 295 people had filed nominations, out of which 10 papers were rejected while 18 candidates withdrew their nominations.

Other important candidates of BJP in the second phase are … Digant Kalita (Kamlapur), Ramakant Deori (Morigaon), Jeetu Goswami (Brahmapur), Mihir Kanti Shom (Burbond), Gautam Roy (Katigoda), Nandita Garsola (Halflong) and Jayant Malla Barua (Nalbari).
Aziz Ahmed Khan (Karimjung South) of AGP has filed the form. Former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Dilip Kumar Paul, who left the party after not getting a ticket from the BJP, will contest from Silchar as an independent.
The last date for nomination for 39 seats in the second phase is Friday. The nomination papers are to be retrenched on March 15 and the names will be withdrawn on March 17. Voting is to be held on April 1.
Election for the 126-member assembly of Assam is going on in three phases. Polling for seats in the third phase is scheduled on April 6.
