Harda. Merchant Omprakash Soni had taken gram from 22 farmers of Harda district and sold it to the merchant of Seoni Banpura, but did not give the money to the farmers.
Omprakash Soni, originally from Hoshangabad district, had purchased gram from 22 farmers of Temgaon Uskalli but had not paid the produce to him. The court of Second Additional Sessions Judge has punished the businessman with a sentence of 5 years and a fine of Rs 2 lakh. Failure to pay penalty will result in imprisonment for 2 years and will have to suffer.
22 farmers did not pay
Giving information about the case, the government Additional Public Prosecutor of Harda District Court told that Om Prakash Soni, a trader living in Temagaon of Harda district, had purchased 855.70 quintal of gram from 23 farmers in 2018. It was to be paid 37 lakh 87 thousand 480 rupees. But the merchant paid only 1 trader and did not pay 27 lakh 37 thousand 880 rupees from the remaining 22 traders. After this, the aggrieved farmers had filed a case under section 420 against businessman Omprakash at Rahatgaon police station on 25 April 2018.Farmers’ crop sold to another trader
After hearing the trial which lasted about three years, the court decided and sentenced the accused Omprakash Soni to 5 years imprisonment on the basis of all the evidence. Soni took the produce from the farmers and sold it to another merchant.
The farmers had complained
Advocating in the case, the Government Additional Public Prosecutor said that the businessman had rented a room in Temagaon. Merchant Om Prakash Soni had taken gram from 22 farmers of Harda district and sold it to the merchant of Seoni Banpura, but did not give the money to the farmers. The merchant was champed overnight with the amount of millions of rupees. The farmers had complained to the police.
