New Delhi. 5G mobile services in the country (5G Mobile ServicesThere is good news for the eagerly waiting users. Soon they will start getting 5G mobiles. A senior official of the Telecom Ministry says that by May this year, the auction of 5G spectrum (5G Spectrum Auction) provided the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) submits its recommendation by March. TRAI has to give its recommendation on the rules regarding the auction process of 5G spectrum.

Telecom Secretary K Rajaraman said that TRAI has indicated that they will send these (recommendations) by March. After that it will take a month to decide about it. The government has taken 60 to 120 days to start the tendering phase after receiving recommendations from TRAI on spectrum auction in the past.

It will take two months to start the auction
Rajaraman said that it will take two months for the DoT to start the auction from the day TRAI’s recommendations are received. According to the department, data from 5G will be able to download 10 times faster than 4G service. As per the procedure, the department seeks recommendations from TRAI on the price of spectrum, method of allotting it, size of its block, modalities of payment. TRAI consults with industry and other stakeholders and sends recommendations to DoT.

Digital Communications Commission will take the decision
As per the existing procedure, the apex decision making body in the Department of Telecom is the Digital Communications Commission (erstwhile Telecom Commission), which takes decisions on the recommendations of TRAI. Then it is sent to the cabinet for final approval. Rajaraman said that the DoT has selected MSTC as the auctioneer for the upcoming auction.

Ashwini Vaishnav has also indicated
Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information earlier this month. He was informed by TRAI that it will submit its recommendations for 5G auction by March. After this, the Department of Telecommunications is completing other procedures to conduct the auction at the earliest.
