NEW DELHI: Air India, along with government agencies, is evaluating whether the second Delhi-Kyiv flight that took off at 7.50 am Thursday should proceed to Ukraine or return to India. A notice to airmen (NOTAM) has been issued restricting civilian flight movement in Kyiv airspace due to military activity in the region.
The AI Dreamliner was around 9.15 am about to enter Iranian airspace from Pakistan enroute Ukraine. It is learnt AI has got in touch with the government to assess whether the flight can safely continue to Kyiv or should return.
A decision on the same is likely to be taken shortly.
AI had operated a Delhi-Kyiv-Delhi flight on Tuesday, the second one is enroute and one more was supposed to operate this week. But those plans were made before Russia on Thursday announced the military action in Ukraine.
A significant number of Indian students in Ukraine have left the country on Ukraine International Airlines, and the several one-stop options that existed like Qatar Airways, flyDubai, Emirates and other Gulf carriers.
