New Delhi. If you ride a motorcycle with children sitting in front or behind, then this news is very important for you. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has made changes in the rules for the safety of children. Actually, the Modi government at the Center has made the rules for making children sit on bikes more secure than before. Failure to follow this rule will attract heavy fines.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, a notification for this has been issued on 15 February 2022. This rule will come into effect from next year i.e. 15 February 2023. At present, the amount of fine has not been fixed in this rule. It has been told in the notification that the amount of fine for this rule will be decided by the state governments themselves.
Here are the new rules
- According to the new proposal, the speed limit of two wheelers like bike, scooter, scooty should not exceed 40 kmph while carrying a child up to 4 years of age on a motorcycle.
- A child between the age of 9 months to 4 years, seated behind the two-wheeler driver, will be required to wear a crash helmet.
- The motorcyclist shall ensure that children below 4 years of age use a safety harness to carry them on the bike or scooter.
