Luxury automaker Volvo Car India is planning to increase the prices of its models in view of the rising cost. Other luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz India and Audi India have already announced that they will increase the prices of their vehicles with effect from April 1, 2022.

A senior official at Volvo Cars India said, “Keeping in view the challenges of rising cost of living, we are looking at increasing the prices of our models in India.” However, the company has neither disclosed the exact date of increase in prices nor has shared the quantum of hike in prices. Volvo Cars India currently sells sedans like the S60 and S90 and SUVs like the XC40, XC60 and XC90 in the country.

The main reason for the Russo-Ukraine War
Volvo Car India sold 1,724 units in 2021, an increase of 26.67% as compared to 1,361 units sold in 2020. The recent Russo-Ukraine war has led to a huge increase in the prices of goods used in the automobile industry. Above their average prices in the second half of 2021, aluminum prices are up 48%, palladium 38%, rhodium 35%, platinum 13%, rubber 28% and copper 15%.

Mercedes cars will become costlier by 3%
The country’s largest luxury automakers Mercedes-Benz India and Audi India will increase the prices of their models by up to 3% from next month on account of increased raw material cost and logistics cost. Mercedes-Benz India sales grew by 42.43% to 11,242 units in 2021 from 7,893 units in 2020. At the same time, Audi India sold 3,293 units in 2021, an increase of 101.04% as compared to 1,638 units sold in 2020.
