new Delhi. The government is taking various measures to increase the income of the farmers. In this episode, the Modi government will establish more Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO) in the country. This will help in increasing the income of small and marginal farmers. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar says that farmers are the backbone of the country’s economy. That is why the government is constantly making efforts for their betterment.
In the FPO Summit of CII-NCDEX, he said that the government is making efforts to make Indian agriculture profitable and for the prosperity of farmers. Under this, it has already started planning to set up 10,000 FPOs by 2027-28 with an outlay of Rs 6,865 crore. It is being implemented rapidly.

Will help in eliminating middlemen
Tomar said, in order to increase the income of farmers, the government is trying to make available easy financing (providing capital), market linkages and eliminating middlemen in the work of agricultural marketing. Use of technology and crop diversification is being promoted in the agriculture sector. With a view to increase investment in agriculture sector, the government has increased the agricultural credit target to about Rs 18 lakh crore from Rs 6-7 lakh crore in 2014.

Record food production in pandemic
The Agriculture Minister said that during the Kovid-19 epidemic, the agriculture sector has performed very well in terms of record foodgrain production and substantial exports. He appreciated CII and other institutions for conducting studies on FPOs, which pointed out some shortcomings in its establishment. Tomar assured that the government would consider the suggestions of the industry for further improvement in the functioning of the FPOs.
