new Delhi. In the midst of rising inflation, there is good news for air travelers. AirAsia India has waived charges on extra luggage for passengers traveling on its domestic flights.

The company has told that those traveling by connecting international flights will get the benefit of this discount. AirAsia India does not provide international services. This means that passengers who will travel within the country by this airline to catch foreign flights, will be given a discount on extra luggage. At present, passengers with tickets are allowed to carry a check-in bag of 15 kg on the flight.

The company has given the facility because

Normally, passengers on foreign flights are not charged any fee for carrying 20-25 kg baggage for economy class, while for domestic flights this exemption is applicable only up to 15 kg. In such a situation, the airline has waived the duty on the extra luggage. Now 8 kg extra luggage will cost Rs 1,600, 15 kg will cost Rs 3,000 and 30 kg will cost Rs 6,000.

Earlier it used to cost Rs 500 per kilogram

AirAsia India charges Rs 500 per kg on excess luggage from passengers on its domestic flights. This means that for 8 kg, Rs 4,000 would have to be paid. After deducting the fee, this amount has come down to just Rs 1,800. That is, the company has reduced the rate per kg from Rs 500 to Rs 200.

Which passengers will get benefit

AirAsia India has said that passengers who want to catch their connected foreign flights from its flights, will have to pay the reduced rate on extra luggage. Similarly, passengers who come to India on foreign flights and travel on domestic flights to reach their destinations, will also be charged at a lower rate.
