new Delhi. Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai presented the last budget of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on Thursday before the assembly elections. There is no mention of any new tax in the budget this time and also the highest amount of Rs 34,884 has been allocated for education.
1000 rupees pension to the elderly above 60 years
1250 rupees for senior citizens above 80 years of age and 1000 rupees for senior citizens above 60 years of age have been announced. According to the budget announcement, PhD students will get financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh.

Highest allocation for education
Giving the highest priority to the education sector in the budget, Rs 34,884 crore has been allocated for this. At the same time, Rs 1188 crore has been announced for the School of Excellence project.
4000 villages will also get free Wi-Fi
The Finance Minister announced that free WiFi facility would be provided to four thousand villages.

Other budget announcements
Finance Minister Kanu Desai told the assembly that the budget has mainly focused on providing social security, fighting malnutrition and creating new infrastructure. Rs 15,568 crore has been allocated to the Department of Energy and Petrochemicals, Rs 14,297 crore to the Urban Development Sector, Rs 12,240 crore to Health and Family Welfare and Rs 12,024 crore to the Road and Building Department. 500 crore has been earmarked in the budget for a new scheme to help people run cowsheds.
