MUMBAI: HDFC Bank’s loan book grew by 20.9% on a year-on-year basis to Rs 13.7 lakh crore as on March 31.
Given that overall loans for the banking industry grew only 8.5% year-on-year up to March 11 to Rs 117 lakh crore, HDFC Bank’s figures point to a significant gain in marketshare. The bank’s advances aggregated to Rs 11.3 lakh crore as of March 31, 2021 and Rs 12.6 lakh crore as of December 31, 2021.
The growth in the loan book was driven by commercial & rural banking loans, which grew by around 30.5% over March 31, 2021 and about 10% over December 31, 2021. The banks corporate & other wholesale loans grew by around 17.5% over March 31, 2021 and around 11.5% over December 31, 2021.
According to the bank’s internal business classification, retail loans grew by around 15% over March 31, 2021 and around 5% over December 31, 2021; The bank’s deposits stood at Rs 15.6 lakh crore as of March 31, 2022, a growth of around 16.8% over Rs 13.3 lakh crore as of March 31, 2021 and a growth of around 7.8% over Rs 14.5 lakh crore as of December 31, 2021.
Retail deposits grew by around 18.5% over March 31, 2021 and around 6% over December 31, 2021; wholesale deposits grew by around 10% over March 31, 2021 and around 17% over December 31, 2021.
