new Delhi. Ola Electric is happy to join the Centre’s PLI scheme for manufacturing of advanced batteries. The goal of this scheme is to make India into a global EV hub. Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said that in the coming days, the country can become a hub of EV as well as EV cell technology.

Ola Electric currently sells the S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters. The company is also going to launch its first electric car soon. Ola is one of the top EV two-wheelers manufacturers in India.

Recently, Ola Electric has been selected by the Ministry of Heavy Industries under the PLI (Production Linked Incentive) scheme. Under this scheme, a target has been set to manufacture a total of 50 GWh battery capacity. Firms covered under this scheme will get incentives under the ₹18,100 crore program to promote domestic production of Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) batteries.

Aggarwal said about this, “India has the strongest government support in the world to make it an electric vehicle hub. Today, 90 percent of the global capacity is produced in China. We want to transform India into a global center for EV and cell technology.

The companies selected under this scheme will be free to choose advanced technology and machinery, raw material and other items for setting up SAIL manufacturing plants.
