new Delhi : Indian Railways has set up a Solar Plant System at Bina in West Central Railway. The specialty of this first solar power plant of Indian Railways is that it will directly supply electricity to the traction system of Indian Railways. This plant will generate 1.8 million units of electricity per year. According to estimates, this will save the Railways about Rs 1.37 crore every year.
This is the first project of its kind in the world undertaken by Indian Railways, in which an innovative approach to convert Direct Current (DC) into Single Phase Alternating Current (AC) to directly feed the overhead traction system of Railways. technology adoption is involved. Solar power plant has been installed near Bina Traction Sub Station (TSS). Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully commissioned this solar photovoltaic plant.\
Railways broke all these records in freight loading, now target of 9,500 crore revenue
In fact, the move to build this solar plant was taken by the Indian Railways when it decided to use its vacant land for renewable energy (RE) projects to be self-sufficient for its energy needs and to solarize railway stations. Under this, the Ministry of Railways decided to set up solar power plants on a large scale on its vacant lands. The use of solar energy will accelerate the mission of Indian Railways to convert it into a ‘Net Zero’ Carbon Emission Railway.
Under the target, the existing power demand of Indian Railways will be met through the on-going solar projects, making it the first transport organization to become energy self-sufficient. This will help in making Indian Railways green as well as ‘self-reliant’. Earlier, rooftop solar systems of about 100 MW have already been commissioned at many stations and buildings of Indian Railways.
