New Delhi. Famous industrialist and former chairman of Bajaj Group, Rahul Bajaj died in Pune on Saturday. He was 83 years old. He was suffering from cancer for a long time. He was associated with Bajaj Group of Companies for almost 5 decades.

Rahul Bajaj, one of the most successful industrialists of the country, built Bajaj Auto in the field of two wheelers and three wheelers and took it to the leading position. He was also a member of Rajya Sabha from 2006 to 2010. In the year 2001, he has also received the honor of Padma Bhushan.

Rahul Bajaj was born on June 10, 1938 in Kolkata. He studied economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. Apart from this, Bajaj also had a law degree from Bombay University and an MBA degree from Harvard Business School.

Became the CEO of Bajaj Auto in 1968
He took over as the CEO of Bajaj Auto in 1968 and was appointed as the Managing Director in 1972. He also served as the President of CII and the President of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) from 1979 to 1980.

Left the post of chairman of Bajaj Auto in the year 2021
He was appointed as the chairman of the then Indian Airlines from 1986-89 and became the chairman of CII for the second time during 1999-2000. In April 2021, he stepped down as the chairman of Bajaj Auto. However, he was appointed as the Emeritus Chairman of the company for 5 years.
