BENGALURU: Reliance’s Jio Platforms is investing $200 million in InMobi’s lock screen unicorn Glance, taking the latter’s total fundraise so far to $390 million. The latest funding values Glance at around $2 billion, sources told TOI. These sources also said Reliance is picking a 17% stake in Glance.
Glance, which has received funding from Google and Mithril Capital too, provides dynamic content on the lock screens of Android phones. Akash Ambani, director of Jio Platforms, said, “Glance has grown at a phenomenal pace over the past two years and has given users a truly unique solution by unlocking the power of the lock screen for experiencing the internet, live content, creator-driven entertainment commerce, and gaming.”
Jio’s investment in Glance is aimed at accelerating the latter’s launch in key international markets outside of Asia such as the US, Brazil, Mexico and Russia. Glance has also partnered with Reliance Retail to provide its lock screen platform to be integrated into JioPhone Next smartphones. The deal is expected to enhance strategic collaborations between Glance, Reliance Retail, and Jio across devices, commerce, content, and the gaming ecosystem.
Glance has launched a new feature called Live, which offers live content from content creators across sports, news, fashion, travel, food, and entertainment. It will also create exclusive shows from celebrities and influencers.
