jln stadium: Delhi stadium added to asset monetisation list – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The government will soon appoint a transaction adviser for the asset monetisation of the capital’s Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium and the Indira Gandhi Sports complex has been added to the list, after resolving the security and other related issues.
Sources said once the transaction adviser is in place for JLN Stadium, the process of rolling out bids would be stepped up and could spill into the next financial year. They said that security and other issues linked to the monetisation of the Indira Gandhi Sports complex have been resolved and the process would be rolled out as well.
The Indira Gandhi Stadium, along with two regional centres at Zirakpur and Bangalore had also been identified for the asset monetisation plan and the process is likely to be wrapped up in the next financial year. Sources had said that there were concerns that the potential to monetise the Indira Gandhi Stadium may be limited due to its location near the Yamuna riverbed and some historical monuments in the area as well as its proximity to the Delhi Assem- bly. However, the sources said these concerns have been resolved. Under the national asset monetisation pipeline, the sports ministry has a target of raising Rs 1,650 crore in the fiscal year 2022.
Sources said under the proposed national monetisation pipeline (NMP), the surplus land at JLN stadium could be used for setting up a shopping mall, offices and hostels, among other facilities. The NMP announced last year had said JLN Stadium is expected to be a pioneer in creating a financially sustainable sporting model in India through an OMDA(operation management and development agreement) based PPP concession agreement for integrated development, with shared usage of sports facilities.
The target under the NMP for the current year is estimated at Rs 88,000 crore.
