TRAI had said in its message – All service providers are directed to send SMS on UPC at 1900 to facilitate mobile phone portability to both prepaid and postpaid category mobile phone customers under the Telecom Mobile Number Portability Regulation, 2009. provide facility. This facility should be available to all customers, irrespective of the value of vouchers they are using.

To port the SIM card, SMS will have to be sent from the mobile number to 1900 number. You write the PORT mobile number and send it to 1900. After this a Unit Porting-YPS code will come on your phone number. This code number will be valid for 15 days. Taking this code number, go to the retail store of the telecom operator near you, the company whose services you want to take. Ask the staff there to port the SIM.

During porting, you will have to carry your passport size photo and identity proof copy with you. After completing the paper verification, the existing SIM will be closed and a new SIM of the new company will be available. This whole process may take up to a week.
