BENGALURU: Financial services firm JP Morgan is hiring 6,000 people in Bengaluru this year across tech, operations and other functions to accelerate its transformation agenda. It has taken up an additional 1.1 million sqft in Embassy Tech Village in Bengaluru. It currently has over 40,000 employees in technology and operations across Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad. These centres support the investment bank’s global operations.
Lori Beer, global chief information officer in JPMorgan Chase, said they would be hiring in the areas of AI/ML, cyber security, cloud, architecture, data engineering, and data science. With a large base of private cloud platforms, it is also hiring infrastructure software engineers. “We outsource less than 10% of our IT. We have a total of 55,000 people in technology,” she said.
Beer said technologists are celebrated in the bank, and they grow the tech talent through a programme called Expert Engineer, or E2. “We select talent that demonstrates skills and mastery in software engineering, and we grow those skills. We use E2 in key strategic projects. The highest technical distinction is the distinguished engineer,” she said.
JP Morgan is now spending $12 billion on technology annually, an increase from $9.5 billion in 2020, with a majority of the spending moving to `change the bank’ efforts. CEO Jamie Dimon in a recent investor call said the bank plans to move 30-50% of its app and data to the cloud.
Beer said India teams work in multiple areas. “Several of our key teams working on collaboration are based in India. When it comes to developing new wealth capabilities for our consumers, we have our India team applying intelligence to that and migrating to strategic platforms,” she said. On the commercial banking side, JP Morgan is investing in capabilities and platforms to go beyond banking.
