In such a situation, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has considered adding the amount of carry bag to the bill without informing it as an unfair trade practice. The commission has now taken a strict stand regarding this. The commission believes that sellers or producers earn profit from the purchase of consumers, so it is their responsibility to take care of the convenience of the consumers.
There have been many such cases in the country, in which a fine has been imposed for charging a charge in exchange for a carry bag. The Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered payment of compensation to the complainant as compensation for charging the carry bag. It is also being asked to stop this practice with immediate effect. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has agreed that you cannot use a consumer as an advertising agent for unfair trade practice.

Recently, the Union Environment Ministry has issued guidelines to increase the accountability of plastic manufacturers or producers, brands of plastic packaging waste to reduce and control plastic waste. The government has asked to implement these guidelines increasing the responsibility of the producers with immediate effect. These guidelines are part of the government’s steps towards eliminating single-use plastic.
Know these things before paying the bill
Therefore, if you shop in the market or mall, then take information about the carry bag in advance. Also, while paying the bill, make sure to check that the charge for the carry bag has not been added. Along with this, check GST and other taxes as well, because no tax can be levied after MRP. Also, match the discount in the rates of the items with the bill correctly.
Taking charge of carry bags is not good for fair trade: NCDRC
It is worth noting that recently the NCDRC in several decisions has prohibited the charging of additional charges from the people regarding carry bags. NCDRC said that charging extra for carry bags at unpaid counters is not fair trade. Explain that according to the new Consumer Protection Act-2019, the retailer can charge for plastic carry bags without using their company logo. Meaning the retailer can sell plain carry bags for money, but if the company logo is sold in the carry bag then it should be supplied free of cost.
