new Delhi. Now people will not only get ration at the government ration shops in the country, but digital and financial work will also be done on them. Soon people will be able to get these ration shops done from booking train tickets to transferring money. This will be done by connecting the Common Service Centers (CSC) of the Central Government with the ration shops. With this step, while the Kotedars running the ration shop will get additional opportunities of earning, people will also get digital services near their homes.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Central Government is working on a plan to provide digital and financial services to every corner of the country through ration shops. The effort of the ministry is to connect more than 10 thousand Common Service Centers (CSCs) with ration shops in the country in a year. At present, 8 thousand CSCs are working in collaboration with ration shops in the country.

Financial services are being provided through ration shops located in Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. There are more than 3 lakh CSCs in the country. They are providing many facilities to the people including Aadhaar and PAN card registration, train ticket booking, information and registration of various government schemes. Under the Digital India program, the central government has set a target to reach out to 6 lakh villages of CSCs.
More than 5 lakh ration shops
There are a total of 5.34 lakh ration shops in the country. Through these shops, 60 to 70 million tonnes of food grains are being given to more than 80 crore people every year. Every month a large number of people go to get ration on FPS. In such a situation, there is a lot of potential for generating additional income at these shops. That is why the government now wants to start digital and financial services on them as well.

Mudra loan can be taken
A scheme has been jointly approved by the Ministry of Food, Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance and State Bank of India. Under this scheme, the ration shopkeeper can take a loan of up to Rs 10 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (Mudra Loan). Through this loan, FPS dealers can construct buildings for the sale of essential food and non-food items.
