New Delhi. In the last few years, the sales of electric (EV) and CNG cars in the country have increased tremendously. In such a situation, now Tata Motors expects that the sales of its CNG and electric vehicles will increase significantly in the next three-five years. The company expects that the contribution of CNG cars to its total sales will increase by 20 percent in the next three to five years. Most entry-level customers would prefer the CNG model.
Tata Motors is also focusing on the hatchback and compact sedan segments to expand its CNG model range. Apart from CNG cars, Tata Motors is also bullish about the growth potential of the EV segment. The auto major expects the contribution of electric car sales to its total sales to be around 20 per cent in the next few years.

CNG to replace diesel variant in entry-level segment
Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicles and Electric Vehicles, Tata Motors believes that CNG is going to grow significantly in the coming years. He also said that CNG cars can replace the diesel variants in the entry-level segment. He also said that the sales of diesel cars currently account for about 15 per cent of its total sales, while that of petrol is 66 per cent and that of CNG cars is 12 per cent. Electric vehicles contribute only 7 percent to Tata Motors’ total passenger car sales.

Tata introduced CNG cars
Tata Motors recently launched CNG variants of Tiago and Tigor. The Tiago is now available in both petrol and CNG options. Tata Tigor on the other hand is now available in petrol, CNG and electric options. With this, the Tigor is now the only car in India that is available in all three fuel options. Tata Motors currently leads the EV segment of the Indian car industry with its Tigor EV and Nexon EV. The automaker aims to further increase the market share of its electric cars. Also, the carmaker is aiming to increase market share in the CNG sector as well.

Customers trend towards CNG or Electric
The prices of petrol and diesel have increased significantly, so many customers in the country are now turning to the option of affordable vehicles. In such a situation, people are preferring to buy CNG and electric cars instead of petrol, which come in their budget. The sales of electric vehicles and CNG-powered cars in India have seen faster than ever in the last 12 months. Although, the sales of electric cars are still much lower than the total vehicle sales in the country, but it has seen a huge increase as compared to last year.
