Recently, German carmaker BMW’s iX Hydrogen car has entered the final winter testing phase at BMW’s Testing Center in Arjeplog, Sweden. BMW has shared the integrated functional system of the fuel cell system, hydrogen tank, central vehicle control unit and peak power battery, confirming that the car can be driven comfortably and with superior performance even in zero temperature.

car running in cold weather
The car has undergone several sessions on snow and intensive field testing, the company said in Argeplug. The hydrogen fuel cell drive system of the car has performed like driving under normal conditions despite extreme cold. Despite the cold weather, the drive system offered a full operating range. It takes only three to four minutes to refill the hydrogen tanks of the car under such conditions, highlighting its refueling capability.

The BMW IX Hydrogen is powered by the 5th generation BMW eDrive technology along with an electric motor using fuel cell technology. The hydrogen that the car uses as an energy source is stored in two 700-bar tanks made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. The fuel cell then converts the hydrogen into electric power, which produces 170 hp of power.

Hydrogen car will run in India
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said during a program last year that a vehicle running on green hydrogen has arrived in the country. It can be delivered by the end of December. He said that it will be used as a pilot project. Gadkari said that this vehicle will run for 180 km in one kilo.
