new Delhi . Aircraft fuel prices in the country rose 3.3 per cent on Tuesday as international oil prices hit a seven-year high. It reached the highest level ever. This is the fifth hike in the prices of aircraft fuel or Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) this year due to the continuous rise in oil prices in the global market.

On the other hand, the prices of petrol and diesel remained stable for the 116th consecutive day. In the national capital, ATF price rose by Rs 3,010.87 per kl or 3.22 per cent to Rs 93,530.66 per kl as per the price notification of state-owned oil marketing companies.

ATF or jet fuel accounts for 45 to 55 percent of the operating expenses of Indian airlines. The price of ATF in India is the highest in the world. Now once again it has been increased. Because of this, once again air travel can be expensive. The industry has been demanding for a long time to bring ATF under GST.

The increase in crude oil prices has a direct effect on the prices of petrol and diesel in India. However, even after the fluctuations in the global price of crude oil, Indian oil companies have not changed the prices of petrol-diesel. Since Diwali last year, there has been a huge jump in the prices of crude oil, but the prices of petrol and diesel are stable.

The government had given relief to the public by reducing the tax on petrol and diesel in November 2021 in view of the assembly elections. Indian oil companies have not made any change in the prices of petrol and diesel since November i.e. Diwali. The last date for the end of elections in five states is 7 March, while the election results will be released on 10 March. In such a situation, speculations are being made that after March 10, the price of petrol and diesel will increase.
