YouTube is adding a new feature that will make it easier for users to find a channel when it’s live streaming. The video platform has added a TikTok-like ‘Live’ indicator, which consists of a ring and the word ‘Live’ written on the profile icon of the channel.
Neal Mohan, chief product officer of YouTube, announced the feature via Twitter. The tweet reads, “Really focused making it easier for users to find live streams on @YouTube so we’re rolling out the Live rings feature on mobile! @YouTubeCreators streaming live will now have a ring around the channel avatar & clicking on the avatar will take you directly to the livestream.”
Mohan also confirmed that users can directly tap on the channel profile icon when they see the new ‘Live’ icon to directly start watching the stream.
This means whenever a content creator will start a live stream on their channel, the channel avatar or profile icon will start showing a circle with the Live word on it to indicate that the channel is currently live.
This will definitely help users and subscribers to find that the channel is currently live and also help them to easily join the stream.
The feature is currently rolling out on mobile, which means smartphone users are either already able to see this new ‘Live’ ring feature or they will start seeing it in the coming days.
For those unaware, YouTube has recently rolled out a new video player design for both mobile app and website. The revamped user interface in the full screen mode now shows a new row of quick toggle buttons that includes like, dislike, open comments, add video to playlist, share and more videos.
