New Delhi. The government is making many efforts to promote electric vehicles in India. Apart from the FAME II scheme by the central government, many states and union territories are giving their own schemes and subsidies to encourage it further. Therefore, today we are telling about the subsidy received on electric vehicles like the state and the center.
First of all, you should know that what is the scale of subsidy given by the government? Actually, the central and state governments decide the subsidy or incentive according to the capacity of the lithium-ion battery used in the vehicle. That is, the subsidy will be available according to the number of kilo watts (kWh) of the battery. Its center and states give exemption in registration fee, GST and tax on loan according to their own.

subsidy from the central government
In 2019, the government launched Faster Adoption of Electric Vehicles in India (FAME) to promote electric vehicles in the country. Under this, initially a subsidy of Rs 10000 was given per kWh. Later in June 2021, the government increased this limit to Rs 15,000 per kWh to promote electric vehicles. It was named FAME-II.
get benefit like this
- For two-wheelers: Rs 15,000 per kWh of battery capacity (up to a maximum of 40 per cent of the cost of the vehicle)
- For four wheeler: Rs 10,000 per kWh battery capacity (maximum up to Rs 1.5 lakh)
Tax benefit in this way
Apart from this, many types of discounts are also available from the Ministry of Finance on buying electric vehicles. These plans are different from FAME II. For example, GST is levied at 5 percent on all electric vehicles. Apart from this, a person buying an electric vehicle for the first time can take a loan under section 80EEB of the Income Tax Act and can get tax benefits up to Rs 1.5 lakh.

Subsidy available in two wheeler
If we talk about the state giving maximum subsidy, then Delhi is at the forefront. Here the government gives a maximum incentive of Rs 30,000 per kWh on the purchase of electric two-wheeler, but the condition is that the battery of the vehicle should be more than 5 kWh. Abi most electric two-wheelers use batteries with a capacity of two to three kilowatts. Apart from this, vehicle registration fee and road tax are also free for EV in Delhi.
Two-wheeler gets discount in these states
Maharashtra is the second state to offer the highest incentive on electric two-wheelers. Here too, like Delhi, incentive is available at the rate of 5 thousand per kWh. At the same time, Meghalaya, Assam, Gujarat and West Bengal get the highest incentive i.e. 10 thousand per kWh in terms of kWh. But here the maximum subsidy limit is only 20 thousand rupees. For example, if someone buys a scooter with 3 kWh battery here, he will get a discount of 20 thousand rupees. Apart from this, incentives are not available in states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. However, in some states, benefits like exemption in road tax and registration fee are available.

subsidies on electric cars
Like two-wheelers, the central and state governments are also giving subsidy on electric cars. But their advantage is available on only a few cars. The reason for this is that cars use a bigger battery than two-wheelers. That’s why the government gives limited subsidy on them. Some states have announced to give subsidy for the first 10 thousand customers. Apart from this, some states give subsidy only on EVs up to 15 lakhs, cars costing more than this do not get subsidy.
Subsidy is available on electric cars in these states
For electric cars, Delhi, Gujarat, Assam and West Bengal give an incentive of Rs 10,000 per kWh, its limit is only Rs 1.5 lakh. The Odisha government is giving an incentive of up to one lakh rupees on these vehicles. The Meghalaya government gives a subsidy of Rs 60,000 with an incentive of Rs 4,000 per kWh. Apart from this, there is no registration fee on electric vehicles across the country.
