‘Pandemic hit hard emotionally’

It has affected every single person on earth, whether that person is ordinary or very special. Google and Alphabet CEO, Sundar Pichai has been emotionally affected by the pandemic. In an interview to the BBC at Google Headquarters in California’s Silicon Valley, Pichai talked about AI, including threats to the free and open Internet. During this he disclosed it.

When BBC asked Pichai, when was the last time you cried? To this Pichai’s reply was, ‘During Kovid, I could not stop myself seeing the line of trucks outside the morgue around the world. At the same time, I was very impressed by what happened in India in the last one month. He says, India saw a deadly second wave of corona in the month of May from mid-April, in which thousands of people died and I could not stop myself and broke emotionally after seeing pictures of dead bodies floating in the Ganges river on the internet.

‘India resides in my heart’
Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that even though he is an American citizen now, India resides in his heart. 49-year-old Sundar was born in Tamil Nadu but studied in Chennai. When Pichai was asked about his routes, he said that he is an American citizen but India is settled within him.

‘Indians will not have to wait for new technology’
Talking about Artificial Intelligence (AI), Pichai said that he sees Artificial Intelligence as the most powerful technology, which humans will develop and work on. He says, ‘When I was young, I used to learn every new aspect of technology and think of new opportunities to enhance it, but for that I had to wait somewhere. Today people in India will not have to wait for technology to come to you. A whole new generation of technologies is being created in India first.

‘Father did a lot to get me on the plane’
In the interview, Sundar Pichai says, ‘My father made me sweat and blood to send me to the US. He spent the equivalent of his one year’s salary for my plane ticket so that I could go to Stanford. This was my first plane trip. It was not as he had imagined. America was expensive. A phone call back home was over $2 per minute and a backpack cost the same as my dad’s monthly salary in India. He said that when he first touched down in the state of California, he could hardly see the changes that were coming. The only thing that took me from here to there, apart from luck, was my deep passion for technology and an open mind, he says.
