new Delhi. The government has given a big relief to those consumers who do not have pure gold jewelery with BIS (Bureau of Indian Standard-BIS). Now such consumers can also get the purity of the jewelery checked. For this they have to pay the fee.
The government said in a statement that consumers can now get their non-hallmarked gold jewelery checked for purity at the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) accredited testing facilities. 200 rupees will have to be paid as a fee for checking the purity of four gold jewelery. For five or more jewellery, the fee is Rs 45 per unit.

Can be checked in any center
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs said that the necessary hallmarking has been successfully implemented. In this, every day three lakh gold items are being certified with HUID (Hallmark Unique Identification). BIS has now made a provision to allow a common consumer to get the purity of his/her unhallmarked gold jewelery checked at any of the BIS-approved Assaying and Hallmarking Centers (ACH).

It will be easy to sell at the time of need
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs said that AHC should test gold jewelery from common consumers on priority basis. After that they should give an accuracy report. The purity report issued to the consumer will assure them about the purity of their jewellery. This report will be useful even if the consumer wants to sell the jewelery lying with him.

The authenticity and purity of hallmarked gold jewelery purchased by the consumer with the HUID number can also be verified using the BIS CARE app – Verify HUID. It can be downloaded from Play Store.
