Google-owned YouTube is rolling out of picture-in-picture (PIP) mode to its YouTube app for iPhone and iPad users. The feature support was first announced in February this year. With the PIP mode, users will be able to navigate through the YouTube TV app while watching a video.
The feature roll out was announced by YouTube TV Twitter handle via a post. “iPhone & iPad users 🔊 We’re happy to share that picture-in-picture is now rolling out to your iOS 15+ devices. Simply select a video to watch and swipe ⬆️ from the bottom of the screen to return to the device’s homepage. The video can scale down and move across your screen”, the post reads.

As announced, PIP mode for YouTube TV app will be supported on iOS devices running 15 and newer. The feature has been available to Android users for years now. It is worth mentioning that PIP mode is yet not available for the standard YouTube app on Apple iPhones and iPads. It is currently under testing and for the Premium subscribers only. According to YouTube’s Labs page, users can try out the feature until April 8th.
In a statement to The Verge yesterday, Google spokesperson Allison Toh said that the company is “still testing picture-in-picture on iOS with Premium members and hope to make it available to all iOS users (Premium and non-Premium) in the US in the coming months.”
